BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES
In different processing steps, the finely dispersed organic components dissolved in wastewater are degraded to inorganic products using bacteria.
Basically, the biological wastewater treatment is differentiated in aerobic and anaerobic treatments.
Aerobic treatments:>
In the aerobic treatments, the bacteria used with uninterrupted ventilation reduce the predominant organic carbon and ammonium compounds, but also sulphur and phosphorous compounds. Fixed bed reactor process and fluidised bed process are used here. The aerobic treatment are characterised largely by odour-neutrality, where increased energy consumption is required for aeration.
Anaerobic treatments:
For very high loads, anaerobic treatments are additionally used under deoxygenated conditions. Putrefactive bacteria are predominantly used here. The advantage of the additional biogas production goes in hand with a relatively high odour nuisance.
